The assembly election in Telangana has been dosed with further excitement thanks to independent candidate Akula Hanumanlu, who is giving startling election handouts - slippers and his resignation letter, New Indian Express has reported.

A VII class dropout, Hanumanlu is contesting as an independent candidate from Korutla of the Jagtial district. He started knocking on the doors of his constituents and giving them slippers and his resignation letters, asking them to remove him from power and throw slippers at him, if he failed to deliver on his promises.

The unique campaigning has gone viral on social media. It is to be seen if it will be translated into votes.

A confident Akula is of the opinion that his strategy should be made compulsory. He states that after observing politics from 10 years, he believes that people in power not only abuse it by not working for the people but don't even listen to their grievance.

The 45-year-old candidate from Gajulapeta village in Metpalli mandal, works as a farmer and document writer, had started his unique campaign since filing the nomination papers on 19 November. Importantly, Korutla is a prestige seat for the ruling TRS, with senior leader K Vidya Sagar Rao contesting.

His party symbol is a whistle, and his manifesto includes using his honorarium for development works, construction of English Medium schools among other.
