In a big boost for Government of India's Smart Cities programme, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi on Saturday (7 September) inaugurated India's first industrial smart city in Aurangabad in Maharashtra, reports The Economic Times.
The Aurangabad Industrial City (AURIC) is also India's first greenfield smart city. AURIC is part of the under-construction Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), and is situated in the underdeveloped Marathwada region. The city is being promoted as a major industrial hub on the DMIC.
While inaugurating the 10,000-acre big AURIC, PM Modi also inaugurated the Auric hall which is a six-storey building which will act as the nerve centre for the smart city and monitor the developments across the region.
Furthermore, PM Modi on Saturday also launched the Auric chatbot which will help individuals get their problems addressed by the city administration, all online.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
