In what can be said to be a clear case of campus hooliganism Makarand Paranjape who is professor at the Jawaharlal Nehru University was not allowed to enter his office in the School Of Languages by a group of students . On asked by the professor the reason for the blockade one of the students replied it was on the grounds of ‘Social Justice’ ideology. The professor narrated his ordeal in the following set of tweets:
#JNU: Blocked from entering the School of Languages, I was the only one who succeeded in getting inside in the end. pic.twitter.com/Ftm8Fyt3ep

#JNU I tried to reason with so many but they refused to enter into a dialogue, resorting to name-calling and slogan-shouting instead.

#JNU I asked one, "What is your name?" He said, "We are Najib." I said, "I am Najib too, but I want to go to my office; you can't stop me."

#JNU Security was so ineffective; it was their responsibility to ensure that those who wanted to go inside the building should be allowed.

#JNU In the end, I myself offered satyagraha. I sat down, held the feet of the two students to push them away from the door. ð¤£

#JNU In our culture, students touch our feet, even if we don't like it; what's wrong in touching their feet for a change.ðFor a good cause.

In March of last year Makarand Paranjape gave a lecture on ‘Nationalism’ on the backdrop of JNU crisis . He questioned if JNU should be democratic or left hegemonic place where contrarian voices were silenced.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
