Mahmud Ali Durrani, who was serving as Pakistan’s National Security Advisor (NSA) at the time of 26/11 Mumbai attack, has said at a conference in New Delhi that it was carried out by a terror outfit based in Pakistan.
Speaking at the 19th Asian Security Conference being held at the Institute of Defence and Studies and Analyses in New Delhi, Durrani said, “26/11 Mumbai attack, carried out by a terror group based in Pakistan, is classic trans-border terrorist event”.
Islamabad has repeatedly denied to accept that the men who attacked Mumbai and killed 166 people, including 18 security personnel, were Pakistani citizens. The country’s authorities have asked for additional proof despite the fact that Pakistani news channel Geo News has tracked down Ajmal Kasab’s home and his parents.
Contrary to what some media outlets have said, Durrani did not accept the involvement of Pakistan’s army and the Inter-Services Intelligence in planning and execution of the attack. He only acknowledged that these men came from Pakistan and belonged to a terror group that is based in his country.
Durrani had made similar assertions just days after the attack. He was sacked from his post soon after, reportedly on the orders of the Pakistan army.
