A Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) having 21 members from the Lok Sabha and 10 from the Rajya Sabha was formed today (9 August) for further deliberation on Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024.
The proposal to form the JPC, along with the names of its constituent members, was proposed by Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju in the Lok Sabha.
The Lok Sabha members part of the JPC are BJP MPs Jagdambika Pal, Nishikant Dubey, Tejasvi Surya, Aparajita Sarangi, Sanjay Jaiswal, Dilip Saikia, Abhijit Gangopadhyay and DK Aruna.
Congress MPs Gaurav Gogoi, Imran Masood and Mohammad Jawed, Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Maulana Mohibullah Nadvi and Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee are also in JPC.
DMK MP A Raja, Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, Dileshwar Kamait, Arvind Sawant, Suresh Gopinath, Naresh Ganpat Mhaske, Arun Bharti and AIIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi are also members of the JPC.
The Rajya Sabha members in JPC are Brij Lal, Dr Medha Vishram Kulkarni, Gulam Ali, Dr Radha Mohan Das Agrawal, Syed Naseer Hussain, Mohammed Nadeem Ul Haq, V Vijayasai Reddy, M Mohamed Abdulla, Sanjay Singh and Dr Dharmasthala Veerendra Heggade.
The Motion for the names proposed was also passed in Rajya Sabha before the Upper House was adjourned sine die. The Bill will now be scrutinised and tabled in the Parliament again after some changes.
