Foxconn, the Taiwanese electronics major, has begun production of iPhone 17 at its Bengaluru facility, Economic Times reported, citing sources aware of the development.
The unit is the company’s second-largest plant globally outside China and has started operations on a limited scale, according to the ET report.
Located in Devanahalli near Bengaluru, the plant is Foxconn’s second-biggest iPhone production site outside China.
The company is investing about $2.8 billion (approximately Rs 25,000 crore) in establishing this factory.
A source cited in the ET report confirmed that the Bengaluru unit has started producing iPhone 17 models, supplementing the ongoing output at Foxconn’s Chennai facility.
Foxconn's India operations were briefly disrupted when several Chinese engineers unexpectedly returned home.
To fill the gap, Foxconn deployed specialists from Taiwan and other regions, allowing production to resume smoothly.
According to the report, Apple aims to expand iPhone production to 60 million units in 2025, up from 35–40 million units in the previous year.
In the fiscal year ending 31 March 2025, Apple boosted iPhone assembly in India by 60 percent, producing devices valued at around $22 billion.
Following Apple’s financial results on 31 July, CEO Tim Cook stated that most iPhones sold in the United States during June 2025 were manufactured in India.
During the company’s second-quarter earnings call, Cook further revealed that all iPhones sold in the US in the June quarter will be shipped from India.
In India, Apple’s iPhone supplies rose 21.5 percent year-on-year in the first half of 2025, reaching 5.9 million units. The iPhone 16 led shipments during this period.
For the June 2025 quarter, Apple recorded a 19.7 percent year-on-year growth in iPhone supplies within India, achieving a 7.5 percent share of the domestic smartphone market.
