At Least 12 Dead As Hyderabad-Bengaluru Bus Catches Fire After Collision With Two-Wheeler In Andhra's Kurnool; PM Modi Expresses Grief

In a tragic accident early Friday (24 October), over 12 people were killed after a private travels bus burst into flames following a collision with a two-wheeler near Chinnatekur village in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool district, India Today reported.

According to reports, the bus traveling from Hyderabad to Bengaluru was carrying around 40 passengers on board.

Several victims were burned beyond recognition, complicating identification efforts.

The collision occurred around 3.30 am, sparking a massive fire that rapidly consumed the vehicle.

Eyewitnesses cited in the India Today report recalled seeing flames erupt in the front section before spreading through the bus.

About a dozen passengers broke open the emergency exit to escape and were later admitted to Kurnool Government Hospital with minor injuries.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep sorrow over the incident, saying, “I am shocked to learn about the devastating bus fire accident near Chinna Tekur village in Kurnool district. My heartfelt condolences go out to the families of those who have lost their loved ones. Government authorities will extend all possible support to the injured and affected families.”

Expressing grief over the tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia for the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 to those injured in the accident.

"Extremely saddened by the loss of lives due to a mishap in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. My thoughts are with the affected people and their families during this difficult time. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000," PM Modi was quoted as saying by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

According to a Deccan Chronicle report, the Kurnool district administration has set up control rooms at various locations to coordinate relief efforts and provide information to victims’ families.
