The Southern Circle's Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), A M Choudhary, and his team carried out a statutory safety inspection of the driverless metro trains provided by China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) for Bengaluru Metro's Yellow Line on Monday (24 February), Financial Express reported.

The statutory safety check is a mandatory requirement prior to the final clearance from the Ministry of Railways, officials said.

A senior official from Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) stated, “Once the Railway Board grants approval for the rolling stock and the signalling tests are completed on the Yellow Line, the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) will conduct a final inspection of the entire R-5 section.”

Subsequent to this, and after receiving the final go-ahead, Yellow Line, connecting RV Road and Bommasandra, will be operational for public services.

The first shipment of the six-coach autonomous metro trains from China reached Bengaluru on 14 February 2024. The newly received coaches were shipped to the Hebbagodi depot in Electronic City, one of the major IT destinations in Bengaluru.

The opening of the Yellow Line is supposed to greatly improve connectivity within the city, particularly between tech corridors and residential areas.
