In a breakthrough development, the first visuals of the workers trapped inside the Silkyara-Barkot tunnel in Uttarakhand for a harrowing 10 days have emerged as rescue operations continue.
Images of the workers were captured by a camera strategically maneuvered through a six-inch pipe inserted into the tunnel.
News agency ANI has released a video recorded through the camera.
Rescue officials have also established communication with some of the workers via Walkie Talkie devices.
Surviving on a diet comprising puffed rice, chana, and dry fruits, the workers now have a lifeline in the form of a six-inch supply pipe extending to them through the debris.
According to reports, the trapped workers are slated to receive mobile phones and chargers, providing them not only with a means of communication but also a source of diversion during the ongoing rescue efforts.
For the past week, relentless efforts to rescue the 41 workers trapped in the tunnel faced repeated setbacks due to various challenges, including the challenging topography and the unique characteristics of the rocks in the area.
The workers have been stranded since last Sunday when a section of the tunnel collapsed. Officials have reassured the public that all the workers are safe and are receiving necessary supplies of food and water.
