On Monday (10 June), Apple introduced Apple Intelligence (AI) across iPhone, iPad, and Mac, incorporating generative AI into its personal devices.

Designed for iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, this AI functions similarly to ChatGPT.

Most of the computing for Apple Intelligence will occur on-device, though heavier prompts may utilise private cloud computation. Apple has assured that data will not be stored on these silicon-based private cloud servers.

Apple Intelligence would be able to rewrite, proofread, and summarise content in Mail, Notes, Pages, and even third-party apps while users can customise the tone for rewrites to be casual, personal, or professional.

In Mail, users can create priority labels and have long emails summarised. Apple Intelligence will also assist with smart replies.

Users can record, transcribe, and summarise audio in the Notes and Phone apps, while other participants being automatically notified. The AI would also be able to generate a summary of calls.

The iOS 18 update will also significantly change Photos, Mail, and Messages.

The new Image Playground feature will allow users to create images in Animation, Illustration, or Sketch styles within apps like Messages. All images would be created on-device.

Apple Intelligence also offers the ability to create Genmoji of friends and family from their photos, which can be used in messages as stickers or reactions in Tapback.

Apple has integrated Siri with Apple Intelligence, enabling advanced search capabilities and media summarisation in a more natural style.

Additionally, Apple has integrated OpenAI’s ChatGPT within iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. Siri can utilise these features with user consent.
