Jannayaka Janta Party (JJP) leader Dushyant Chautala on Thursday (9 May) reiterated his support for a 'No Confidence Motion' against the BJP government in Haryana after three MLAs withdrew their support.
He informed that in a letter written to Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, the JJP has demanded a floor test. He left the ball in Congress' court and asked it to decide what the party wanted to do.
"Congress has to take the step. Congress has 30 MLAs and the three Independent MLAs that have extended support to it. With other Opposition people, it has to take the step forward," Chautala said.
The Haryana Assembly has a current strength of 88 MLAs and to pass the floor test, the support of 45 MLAs is needed. The BJP has 40 MLAs and its former ally JJP has 10 MLAs.
Chautala also alleged that the BJP is doing "horse trading in the state in a new style." However, he expressed faith in the authority of the whip and the House processes.
This comes after former Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said there will be no impact of the ongoing political crisis in the state as the BJP is in touch with several MLAs.
The crisis emerged at a time when Haryana is going to vote in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections on 25 May and Khattar himself is contesting from Karnal.
Nayab Saini took oath as the CM of Haryana on 12 March and passed the floor test a day later after five of the 10 JJP MLAs walked out without voting on the Motion of Confidence.
