India Set To Test 500 Km Range Submarine Launched Cruise Missile In Early March: Report

India is set to conduct the second test of its indigenously developed Submarine Launched Cruise Missile (SLCM) in early March.

This missile has a range of 500 kilometers and will be launched from an underwater platform off the east coast of the country.

The SLCM has been developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). This upcoming test follows a trial of the missile conducted in February 2023.

The submarine-launched cruise missile with a range of 500 km is planned to be tested next month from an underwater platform along the east coast of the country, which would help in proving the system, India Today reported citing sources.

The missile is similar to the Nirbhay cruise missile in its capabilities.

The SLCM will be integrated into India's "rocket force" being created by the defence forces to address potential threats across its borders.

This comes as Pakistan and China have similar capabilities available with their defence forces.

The Army, Navy, and Air Force may reportedly also choose from the existing fleet of ballistic missiles in the strategic forces for their use in conventional roles.
