Kitex Garments, the leading textile manufacturer based in Kerala, has shown interest in investing approximately Rs 4,000 crore in Andhra Pradesh, as part of its expansion strategy, The New Indian Express reported. citing sources.
The company has already invested Rs 3,600 crore in neighbouring Telangana.
Preliminary discussions regarding this development reportedly took place during a recent visit by Handlooms and Textiles Minister S Savitha to the Kitex head office in Kerala.
The minister stated that the coalition government in Andhra Pradesh, under Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, is focused on revitalising the textile industry and has recently introduced a new Textiles Policy.
Stating that she met the Kitex Garments officials in Kerala as per the directions of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the minister added that she held talks with Kitex’s management and learned of their intentions to invest in Andhra Pradesh.
Sri Sathya Sai district has been identified as a priority location for setting up the unit due to its strategic proximity to Bengaluru airport, Krishnapatnam Port, and rail connectivity.
Additionally, the Kurnool district, known for its abundant cotton production, is expected to serve as a reliable raw material source for the company.
The minister said that Kitex’s senior management will soon meet CM N Chandrababu Naidu to formally present their investment proposal.
She also assured that the state government will provide full support to the venture.
During her visit, minister Savitha, accompanied by Kitex Managing Director Sabu Jacob, toured the company's departments.
