The Maharashtra government has taken a step towards establishing a new Information Technology (IT) park in Purandar taluka, strategically located near the upcoming Pune International Airport and a proposed logistics hub, Hindustan Times reported.
Industry minister Uday Samant has reportedly instructed officials to begin land acquisition for the project.
Acting on his orders, the industry department has written to the revenue department, requesting the transfer of government-owned land in Dive, Chambali, and Kodit villages.
Confirming the development, Shiv Sena MLA Vijay Shivthare, who has long advocated for the project was quoted as saying, “The state has approved the IT park at Purandar and directed that 1,500 acres of government land in these villages be transferred for the project. This will boost infrastructure in the area and help reduce traffic burden on Hinjewadi.”
Initially, some land parcels had been rejected by the industry department, but officials have now given the green signal to the identified land.
The move comes amid growing concerns over the saturation of Hinjewadi IT Park, where inadequate infrastructure has strained the hub’s ability to absorb further expansion.
The state hopes that setting up a new IT park closer to Pune will not only attract fresh investments but also prevent companies from considering a shift outside Maharashtra due to congestion and delays.
Last month, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar visited Hinjewadi and directed the administration to expedite road-widening and infrastructure works. He had cautioned that delays were pushing firms to explore alternatives.
While industry department officials have refrained from speaking on record, they confirmed that meetings have already taken place and a formal request has been sent to the revenue department.
Since the earmarked land belongs to the government, authorities expect acquisition to proceed without major hurdles.
