The Maharashtra government has released a resolution on its Housing Policy 2025, aiming to construct 50 lakh houses over the next decade, reported The Indian Express.
As part of the first phase, the state targets 35 lakh houses in five years, with an expected investment of Rs 70,000 crore.
Slum-Free Maharashtra Vision
The policy advances the state’s “My House, My Right” by 2030 vision, focusing on affordable housing for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Lower Income Group (LIG), and Middle Income Group (MIG).
Special emphasis is placed on slum rehabilitation, with redevelopment plans tailored for senior citizens, women, students, and industrial workers.
Boost to Private Participation and Funding
To support this drive, the state will expand the MahaAwas Fund to Rs 20,000 crore.
A government portal will soon be launched to provide housing information.
“The ultimate target is to build 50 lakh houses in the next 10 years,” the policy states.
It adds, “Active participation from the private sector will be promoted through a range of incentive-based measures.”
Green, Inclusive and Worker-Friendly
The policy supports green building, public-private partnerships, and incentives like single-window clearance, reduced GST, and concessions on FSI, property tax, and duties.
Land near industrial and infrastructure corridors will be reserved for housing.
For slum areas, a 20:80 public-private SPV model, like the Dharavi plan, will be adopted.
