Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to inaugurate the long-awaited Yellow Line of Bengaluru Namma Metro.
Union Home and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar confirmed on X, “I am pleased to announce that the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India has kindly agreed to inaugurate the Yellow Line and lay the foundation stone for Phase-3 on August 10.”
The 19.15 km Yellow Line, running from RV Road to Bommasandra, has been completed at a cost of Rs 5,056.99 crore and features 16 stations.
Expected to serve nearly eight lakh commuters daily, the line promises to ease the notorious traffic snarls at Silk Board Junction while connecting key residential areas with major industrial hubs, including Electronic City.
Alongside the inauguration, the Prime Minister will launch the Rs 15,611 crore Phase-3 expansion of the metro network.
Approved by the Union Cabinet within the first 100 days of Modi 3.0, the 44.65 km project also called the Orange Line will add two new corridors with 31 stations.
The expansion aims to serve underserved stretches along Magadi Road and the western arc of the Outer Ring Road (ORR), with completion targeted by the end of 2029.
Local MP Tejasvi Surya hailed it as a “landmark moment for Bengaluru South,” adding, “With nearly Rs 20,000 crore worth of Metro infrastructure dedicated to this region alone, we are incredibly grateful to PM Modi for his continued focus, affection, and commitment to Bengaluru South’s public transport infrastructure.”
Meanwhile, BMRCL Managing Director J Ravishankar, IAS, inspected the Yellow Line and the Hebbagodi depot few days ago, directing teams to address any shortfalls before the public opening.
He also carried out a detailed review of the Airport Metro Line (Phase-2B) from Kempegowda International Airport to Hebbal, including viaduct works, station buildings, the upcoming Airport Depot, and sensitive sections near Indian Air Force premises.
