Modi Demands Global Protocols For AI, Cryptocurrency And Cybercrime: Here Are 14 Highlights From PM's Speech In Dubai

Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a special keynote address at the World Governments Summit in Dubai, UAE on Wednesday (14 February). Here are the highlights from his speech:

1. Praises UAE President: Calling UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed his "brother" and highlighting their frequent meets in the past few months, PM Modi praised him for being a "leader of vision, resolve and commitment."

2. Challenges: Modi highlighted the challenges that the world governments are facing such as technology being the key disruptor, terrorism, climate change, domestic concerns and scattered international system.

3. Governance model: Modi said that the governments should be inclusive, smart (able to make technology a medium of change), clean (corruption-free and transparent) and green (serious towards environmental challenges).

4. Ease: Modi said that the governments' priority should be ease of living, ease of justice, ease of mobility, ease of innovation and ease of doing business. He highlighted his experience of 23 years as head of a government.

5. Minimum government, maximum governance: "I believe that government's interference in people's lives should be minimum. Government should ensure this... People's aspirations should be prioritised," Modi said.

6. Approach: Modi said that governments should create such enivronment that increases enterprise and energy of citizens. Along with top-down and bottom-up approaches, he emphasised the need for an holisitic approach for people's participation.

7. Social and financial inclusion: Highlighting that more than 50 crore people were brought into the banking system through awareness programmes and India's advancement in digital payments, Modi asserted on inclusion.

8. Women and youth: Modi said that his government emphasised on women-led government and brought law for reservation for women in legislatures. He highlighted skill development programmes and that India has third largest startup ecosystem.

9. Last mile delivery and saturation: "No beneficiary should be left out of welfare schemes. This governance model has no place for discrimination and corruption," Modi said highlighting that 250 million people were alleviated from poverty in the last 10 years.

10. Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT): "More than 130 crore Indian citizens have a digital identity, their banks and mobiles are interconnected. More than $400 Billion were transferred through DBT in last 10 years," Modi said asserting removal of corruption.

11. Climate change: Modi said that India is working on solar, green, hydro, biofuels and green hydrogen as our culture teaches us to payback to the nature. He reiterated his CoP28 statement where he talked about green credit.

12. World order: Modi demanded reforms in global governance institutions. "We have to promote values of cohesive, cooperative and collaborative world, developing world concerns in global decision making and global south participation should be promoted," he said.

13. Global protocol: Modi also spoke about challenges that artificial intelligence (AI), cryptocurrency and cybercrime pose and demanded to make global protocols to deal with them.

14. Vishwabandhutva: "We promoted the thought of 'One earth, one family, one future' during our G20 presidency. We just not have to work together, but also learn from each other, this is this summit's aim," Modi concluded.
