Noida International Airport To Begin Operations In June Quarter; Terminal Interior Work Still Pending

The Noida International Airport, one of Uttar Pradesh's landmark infrastructure projects, is now scheduled to be inaugurated in the second quarter of 2025, six months off its initial target of December 2024, The Financial Express reported.

This information was provided by Kevin Fleck, Chief Financial Officer of Zurich Airport, which is developing the project through its wholly-owned subsidiary.

“The construction is progressing, with the runway and tower ready, but the terminal still requires interior work. We expect to inaugurate the airport in Q2 2025, with a ramp-up over the next two to five months,” Fleck informed analysts on 7 March, FE reported.

While the air traffic control tower and runway are almost complete,the interior work is still pending in the terminal building.

Fleck also confirmed possible penalties for the delay.

“Yes, there are penalties of approximately CHF 300,000 (Rs 3 crore) per month, but these can be contractually passed on to TATA (Tata Projects), the airport’s constructor”, he said.

The Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract was given to Tata Projects in 2022.

On the regulatory side, the airport authority has already filed its application for an aerodrome license and is in discussions with aviation regulators to complete Aerodrome Information Publication and obtain a temporary tariff structure.

“We expect the aerodrome license in the next few weeks. The fee application process is ongoing, and we aim to have temporary tariffs before operations start,” Fleck added.

Passenger estimates for the first phase are limited, with 1 to 1.5 million in 2025 and up to 8 million in 2026.

At full completion in four phases by FY50, the airport is expected to handle up to 70 million passengers a year at an overall estimated cost of Rs 30,000 crore.
