Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday (5 November) announced that President Droupadi Murmu has given her approval to the government’s proposal to convene both Houses, the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, during this period.
The minister said that the anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution will be celebrated on 26 November in the Central Hall of Old Parliament Building, now called Samvidhan Sadan.
"Hon’ble President, on the recommendation of Government of India, has approved the proposal for summoning of both the Houses of Parliament for the Winter Session, 2024 from 25th November to 20th December, 2024 (subject to exigencies of parliamentary business). On 26th November, 2024 (Constitution Day), 75th Anniversary of the adoption of Constitution, the event would be celebrated in the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan," Rijiju said in a post on X.
The Constituent Assembly adopted the Constitution in 1949 in the old Parliament building.
The Constitution came into effect on 26 January 1950.
While earlier 26 November used to be celebrated as National Law Day, in 2015, the Modi government announced that it would be observed as Constitution Day, marking the 125th birth anniversary of BR Ambedkar.
