Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed US President Donald Trump’s new initiative to end the Gaza conflict, calling it a viable path toward lasting peace.

"We welcome President Donald J. Trump's announcement of a comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict. It provides a viable pathway to long-term and sustainable peace, security, and development for the Palestinian and Israeli people, as also for the larger West Asian region," PM Modi wrote in a post on X.

Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed on Washington’s 20-point Gaza peace proposal after talks at the White House on Monday (29 September).

The plan calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities. Within 72 hours, Hamas must release all hostages it holds, living or dead, as per NDTV report.

Israel, in exchange, will free 250 Palestinians serving life sentences and 1,700 detainees from Gaza, including all women and children. Israel will also return bodies of 15 Palestinians for each released hostage.

The agreement outlines an Israeli troop withdrawal, conditional on Hamas disarmament and deployment of an international security force to replace departing troops.

Israel will keep a “security perimeter presence” inside Gaza. Hamas will have no role in Gaza’s administration, and all its military infrastructure will be dismantled.

Members pledging peaceful conduct will receive amnesty, and those wishing to leave Gaza will be allowed to do so.

The plan envisions a large-scale humanitarian effort run by neutral international bodies such as the UN and Red Crescent.

It also guarantees Palestinians will not be expelled and outlines an international reconstruction effort to rebuild Gaza.
