Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Punjab’s flood-hit Gurdaspur district on 9 September to meet affected families and review ongoing relief efforts, reported India Today.
Relentless monsoon rains have devastated India's northern states, including Himachal, J&K, Punjab and Uttarakhand.
The BJP Punjab unit announced the visit on X, stating, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is coming to Gurdaspur, Punjab on 9th September. He will meet directly with the flood-affected brothers-sisters and farmers to share their sorrow and take every possible step to help the victims.”
PM Modi will also visit other flood-ravaged states to assess ground realities and review relief measures, as state governments press for greater central assistance, India Today reported citing sources.
Punjab has emerged as one of the worst-affected states, with over 1,900 villages across 23 districts submerged.
At least 43 people have died, while floods damaged crops on nearly 1.71 lakh hectares.
Large tracts of farmland remain underwater, rivers continue to flow above danger levels, and several highways face blockages due to flooding and landslides.
Himachal Pradesh has suffered heavily, reporting 95 flash floods, 45 cloudbursts, and 132 major landslides since 20 June.
The state recorded 355 deaths and 49 missing persons, while estimating damage at Rs 3,787 crore.
Officials said 1,217 roads remain blocked, including key routes in Mandi, Shimla, Kullu, and Chamba.
In Jammu and Kashmir, heavy rains cut off the Kashmir Valley, shutting down the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and other key routes such as Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch and Batote-Doda-Kishtwar due to landslides and road collapses.
Similarly in Uttarakhand, flash floods and cloudbursts in Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Rudraprayag have resulted in heavy damage.
