Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the nation today (19 March) said that more people have been affected by coronavirus than were impacted during the two world wars.
He praised all 130 crore Indians for having bravely fought against the coronavirus but said that complacency in the face of this pandemic is not correct. It is important for every Indian to remain cautious, added the Prime Minister.
“Today I have come to ask something of you. I want some of your time. Till now science is yet to come up with a medical breakthrough to treat coronavirus.”
“The countries which are strongly impacted by coronavirus have seen a sharp spike of affected cases. The Indian government is closely monitoring the situation and takes note of countries which rapidly isolated the patients to contain the pandemic”, said Prime Minister Modi.
For a developing country like India, it is not normal to be stuck amid such a crisis, thus to fight the pandemic we need to follow two things.
Prime Minister Modi also requested all citizens to stay at home for the coming weeks unless absolutely necessary. He added that all senior citizens aged above 60 should not leave their homes.
The Prime Minister also recalled the times when cities and towns used to establish blackouts during wartime. He thus appealed to people to implement a “Janata curfew”. This Sunday (22 March) all citizens should follow this curfew by staying at home from 7 AM to 9 PM. This as per the Prime Minister will help the country prepare for future challenges.
He also appealed to all social and governmental organisations to raise awareness about this Janata curfew.
Prime Minister Modi also said that the country is in-debited to medical personnel, janitors, media persons, railway, airline service people and even food delivery boys.
He thus asked all citizens to express their thanks to these personnel by standing before their homes and cheering for them for five minutes from 5.00 PM to 5.05 PM thus Sunday (19 March).
While addressing the economic impact of coronavirus, Prime Minister Modi said that a task force will look into the economic fallout and urged businesses to be humane and compassionate with their workers.
Prime Minister Modi also urged people to postpone elective surgeries and general checkups. He also assured citizens that steps are being taken to ensure there is no shortfall in essential goods and urged people to refrain from any form of hoarding.
He concluded his speech by saying that India will march ahead with all its might and defeat coronavirus along with the world.
