Political Turmoil In Jharkhand: Ahead Of Crucial Floor Test, MLAs Shift To Telangana Amid Poaching Fears

In a latest development, around 40 MLAs from the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led alliance in Jharkhand have been relocated to Congress-ruled Telangana.

The decision comes amid the alleged concerns that the BJP might attempt to sway them ahead of the upcoming floor test for the Champai Soren government.

As reported earlier, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) MLA Champai Soren was sworn-in as the twelfth Chief Minister of the state on Friday (2 February).

The recent political shuffle was triggered by Champai Soren assuming the role of Jharkhand's chief minister following the resignation of Hemant Soren.

After a dramatic turn of events, Hemant Soren had earlier stepped down ahead of his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday (31 January).

Meanwhile, the floor test, scheduled for 5 February, has heightened speculations as different political players position themselves.

As reported by Hindustan Times, Speaking on the latest developments, Congress leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir disclosed that the MLAs would stay at a "protected place" outside Hyderabad until the crucial floor test unfolds on Monday (5 February).

It's important to note that in the 81-member Jharkhand assembly, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has 29 seats, its ally the Congress has 17 seats while the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) [CPI (ML) ] have 1 seat each.

On the opposition bench, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has 26 seats, All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) 3, while Independents and others have 3 MLAs. One seat in the assembly is vacant.
