Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (3 February) announced that veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Lal Krishna Advani will be conferred Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award of India.
This comes 12 days after Pran Pratishtha of Ramlalla at the Ayodhya Ram Mandir.
Advani had played the pivotal role in the Ram Mandir movement in 1990s that shaped the polity of the country in the following years.
He was the home minister and deputy prime minister of the country in the former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA government.
"I am very happy to share that Shri LK Advani Ji will be conferred the Bharat Ratna. I also spoke to him and congratulated him on being conferred this honour," PM Modi said in a post on X.
