Prime Minister Modi To Address Election Rallies In J&K's Doda, Haryana's Kurukshetra Today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Doda, Jammu and Kashmir, on Saturday for a public rally ahead of the assembly election in the Union Territory.

Union coal and mines minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) election in-charge for J&K G Kishan Reddy said this will be the first visit by a prime minister to Doda in the last 42 years.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold his first election meeting in Doda tomorrow. This will be a significant event as it marks the first visit of any Prime Minister to Doda in 42 years. The last prime ministerial visit to Doda was in 1982,” Reddy was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

As the BJP's lead campaigner, PM Modi will address an election rally at the Doda Sports Stadium. This will be PM Modi's first rally after the official announcement of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly election by the Election Commission on 31 August.

Modi is also expected to visit Srinagar on 19 September as part of his campaign.

The assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir is set to take place in three phases, with voting scheduled for 18 September, 25 September, and 1 October.

The first phase on September 18 will see voting in eight constituencies across Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban districts, along with 16 constituencies in south Kashmir.

In Doda, the BJP has fielded Gajay Singh Rana as its candidate, while Shakti Raj Parihar will contest on party ticket from the Doda West constituency.

Following his rally in Doda, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Kurukshetra, where he will hold his first rally ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections scheduled for next month. The polling in Haryana is set for 5 October.

The counting of votes for Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana will take place on 8 October.
