Railway officials have hinted at a possible Diwali launch for Uttar Pradesh's first sleeper coach Vande Bharat train. The high-speed train is expected to operate between Lucknow and New Delhi, connecting the state capital with the national capital.
Recently unveiled in Bengaluru by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Vande Bharat sleeper trains boast speeds up to 160 mph and enhanced comfort features. Vaishnaw described the occasion as a "historic moment" for Indian Railways.
The new trainsets include modern amenities such as sensor-operated intercommunication doors, automatic external passenger doors, and improved interiors. Passenger comfort is prioritized with ample luggage space, modular pantries, security cameras, and public address systems. First-class AC carriages will offer hot water showers, while upper berths feature padded surfaces for added comfort.
Northeastern and Northern Railways have submitted proposals to the railway board for introducing sleeper coaches on this route, though final approval is pending. If launched, this would mark the 12th Vande Bharat train in Uttar Pradesh, adding to the 11 currently operational in the state.
A senior railway official, speaking anonymously, confirmed the proposals but emphasized that the final decision rests with the railway board. The introduction of these sleeper coaches aims to elevate the long-distance travel experience, combining speed, comfort, and cutting-edge technology for passengers.
The railway sources suggest that if plans proceed as expected, the new sleeper coach Vande Bharat could be operational by Diwali, a major festival typically celebrated in October or November.
