Prime Minister Modi is today addressing a public rally in Purulia in the poll-bound West Bengal.

He targeted the past governments of West Bengal for keeping the state under developed. He also turned current chief minister “Khela Hobe” slogan to portray Trinamool (TMC) as a party of political violence, and counterpoising BJP as a party of development.

He said, "Didi bole khela hobe, BJP bole chaakri hobe. Didi bole khela hobe, BJP bole vikas hobe. Didi bole khela hobe, BJP bole shiksha hobe....Khela shesh hobe, vikas aarambh hobe."

“First the Left government, and then the TMC govt didn't let industries develop here. The kind of work that should've been done for irrigation, didn't take place. I know the problems faced in rearing livestock due to less water. TMC govt was busy in its 'khel' by leaving farming on its own,” PM Modi said.

“These people have given Purulia a life riddled with water crisis. They have given Purulia, migration. They have given the poor of Purulia, discriminatory governance. They have given Purulia an identity of being one of the most backward areas of the country,” he added.

He further said, “This land is a witness to Lord Ram and Goddess Sita's exile. This land has Sitakund. It is also said that when goddess Sita was thirsty, Lord Ram got water from the ground by hitting it with an arrow...It is an irony that Purulia faces water crisis today.”

The prime minister further said that despite political differences, he respects Mamata Banerjee as that is what our culture teaches.

“Bengal made up its mind long back. It's been saying 'Lok Sabha mein TMC half aur iss baar poori saaf'. Seeing this determination, Didi is taking out her frustration on me. But for us, she's a daughter like crores of daughters of India. Respect for them is part of our culture,” he said.

He also said that he was pained by the injury to Banerjee’s leg and he wants her to get well soon.

He targeted TMC for political violence. He said that only yesterday BJP workers were targeted via bomb attacks etc. in 24 North Pargana district. “This is not a good situation. TMC’s violence, oppression, and Mafiaraaj will no longer work,” he said.

“What has Didi made of Bengal? There is crime, there are criminals, but not in jail. There are mafias, infiltrators roaming around freely. There is a syndicate, there are scams but there is no action against them,” the PM said.

The prime minister said that in centre, the government’s policy was ‘Direct Benefit Transfer’ - DBT; but West Bengal government’s policy was ‘TMC’ - Transfer My Commission.

When the crowd roared in his support, Modi said that people’s enthusiasm was instilling fear in the minds of the syndicate and the criminals. “Friends! your roar shows that the countdown has begun for Didi’s government,” he said.

PM Modi then talked about the work done by the BJP government at the centre for the welfare of the people, including Ujjwala scheme, DBT, Van Dhan Yojana, etc.

"West Bengal can only develop when all sectors come together. Mamata didi, however, never brought together the Dalits, Tribals, SCs/STs and other such classes. Ten years of corruption has dealt a massive blow to these people,” he added.

He further said that the TMC government had bred a new breed of Maoists in the state that runs on extortion and loots people via TMC goons.

"This entire region including Purulia has several developmental possibilities. For that, connectivity of this region needs to be improved. Our priority is to connect every part of West Bengal to Railways,” the PM said, adding that he will also work to develop the Chhau dance form of the region, focus on skill development, as well as facilities to stop the outmigration of labour from Bengal.

“The people of Bengal are saying to didi - you've done enough torture. Fear has been your weapon. The people of Bengal will now stand up and with the blessing of Maa Durga, will defeat you," he said.
