During Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent Washington visit, Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir presented a box of rare earth minerals to US President Donald Trump, drawing sharp criticism from Pakistani senator Aimal Wali Khan, reported Hindustan Times.

Speaking in Parliament, Khan condemned the gesture as a “mockery” and questioned Munir’s authority to display the country’s strategic resources.

“Our chief of army staff is roaming around with a briefcase containing rare earth minerals. What a joke! It was absolute mockery,” Khan said.

He compared the act to an “elite designer shop” and added, “In what capacity? Under which law? This is dictatorship. I am sorry to say this is not democracy... is this not contempt of parliament?”

A photograph from the Oval Office captured Munir handing over a wooden box filled with rare earth minerals to Trump. The meeting marked Munir’s third trip to Washington since the May cross-border clashes between India and Pakistan, which Trump claims he helped mediate.

Islamabad has even nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in the ceasefire.
