Yogi Adityanath Government Plans Global Tech Hubs In Key UP Cities With An Investment Of Rs 33,500 Crore

The Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government is reportedly planning to establish global technology hubs in the state with a substantial investment of $4 billion (around Rs 33,500 crore).

This comes as the Yogi Government is aiming for a tenfold growth in the IT and ITeS sectors over the next five years.

These investments are set to focus on new-age technologies, which are increasingly being adopted in various fields such as industry, e-commerce, education, health, tourism, space, electronics, and energy.

The Yogi Adityanath government is formulating a strategy to attract global investors, including from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), to collaborate with the state's growing AI and drone sectors.

Five cities in the state—Noida, Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, and Prayagraj (Allahabad)—have been identified for the development of these technology hubs, Business Standard reported citing a senior UP government official.

Noida, located in the Gautam Buddha Nagar district, will be developed as an IT & ITeS hub, while Lucknow will encompass industries dedicated to AI and machine learning (ML).

Similarly, Kanpur is earmarked to emerge as a centre for drones and robotics, while Varanasi and Prayagraj are set to be developed as hubs for engineering, research, and development (ER&D).

Additionally, the UP government is also evaluating the possibility of designating the IT sector as an industry, which would provide IT firms with access to electricity at industrial rates.
