Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta returned to public duties on Friday (22 August), marking her first official appearance since being attacked earlier this week.

Addressing traders in Shahdara’s Gandhi Nagar Market, Gupta assured citizens that she would keep fighting for Delhi's rights.

“Your CM Didi will not be afraid, will not get tired, will not lose. Till Delhi gets its rights, she will keep fighting with you,” Gupta said.

"It is my vow to continuously fight with you," she added.

During the event, Gupta named Gandhi Nagar MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely as the new chairman of the Yamuna Paar Vikas Board.

Praising him for his record, Gupta said Lovely had earlier held senior roles in the Delhi government but joined the BJP purely for development goals.

“He is like the chief minister of Gandhi Nagar. He took an oath for Delhi’s development. Lovely will be the chairman of the Yamuna Paar Vikas Board,” she said.

Gupta asked Lovely and East Delhi MP, Union Minister Harsh Malhotra, to draft a budget proposal for area development.

“I am sanctioning the budget today. You just make a file with the budget estimates,” she said.

Earlier on Wednesday (20 August), Gupta was attacked during a public hearing at her Civil Lines office.

Police arrested the attacker, 41-year-old Rajeshbhai Khimji, and booked him under multiple charges including attempt to murder.

Gupta had remained at her official residence since the incident.
