Dear Reader,

In his Lok Sabha speech on Tuesday, PM Modi recommended the book 'JFK's Forgotten Crisis' by Bruce Riedel to the Opposition.

This was in response to Rahul Gandhi's remarks on the Sino-Indian border situation, which the PM claimed were prompted by the former's attempts to appear mature.

It just so happens that nine years ago in 2016, Swarajya reviewed this book.

Jaideep Prabhu noted book's accessible style and insights on Nehru’s limitations, JFK’s India-friendly stance, and the 1962 war.

There's also an interesting parallel. While Rahul Gandhi tried to appear mature with his remarks on foreign policy, Kennedy had actually drawn attention for his foreign policy takes as a senator.

Beyond the book, the review offers a sharp commentary on the era—making it timely to revisit. Read it here.
