Five foreign terrorists have been killed by security forces in an encounter in the morning hours of Friday (16 June), in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the police, the encounter was started in a joint operation between the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) in the Jumagund area of Kupwara district.
"An encounter has started between terrorists and joint parties of Army and Police on a specific input of Kupwara Police in Jumagund area of LoC of Kupwara district," the Kashmir Zone police tweeted.
"Five foreign terrorists were killed in the encounter. A search operation is underway," ADGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said.
This operation comes just three days (13 June) after two more terrorists were killed by a joint team of Indian Army and JKP, in another encounter in the Machhal area of the Kupwara district.
Just a day earlier, an infiltration bid was foiled by the Army and JKP along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Krishnaghati sector.
One AK-74 rifle with nine magazines and 438 rounds, two pistols with four magazines and 60 rounds, six hand grenades and other incriminating materials were seized from the terrorists.
The terrorists, however, were able to escape using the cover of darkness and thick foilage.
