An Indian tourist bus returning from Kathmandu’s Pashupatinath Temple was allegedly attacked by protesters during ongoing political unrest in Nepal, leaving several passengers injured, the driver said, as per The New Indian Express report.
The incident occurred on 9 September near Sonauli, along the India–Nepal border. The bus, carrying 49 Indians, came under attack when agitators reportedly pelted stones, shattering windows and injuring women and elderly travellers, according to driver Ramu Nishad.
Local authorities shifted the injured to a hospital in Kathmandu. The remaining passengers were later flown to India on a special aircraft arranged by the Indian Embassy with assistance from the Nepalese government.
Nepal has been witnessing violent anti-government demonstrations, led largely by a youth group known as “Gen Z.” The protests, demanding dissolution of Parliament and amendments to the Constitution, have claimed at least 34 lives in recent days.
The group held a press briefing, reiterating its demands, while some of its representatives met President Ramchandra Paudel and Army Chief Ashok Raj Sigdel at Army Headquarters to discuss possible solutions to the crisis.
In a separate incident, a woman from Ghaziabad died while attempting to escape a luxury hotel in Kathmandu that had been set ablaze by protesters, leaving her husband injured and stranding dozens of Indian tourists.
Tensions remain high as authorities try to defuse the unrest, which has disrupted transport and affected travellers near the border.
