The Blue Line of Bengaluru’s Namma Metro, linking Central Silk Board Junction with Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), is now expected to be ready by December 2027, with civil works crossing the halfway mark.
According to the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), overall physical progress has reached 52.5 per cent as of 30 June 2025, reported The Hindu.
The 58.19 km corridor is being developed in two segments: Phase 2A, stretching 19.75 km from Central Silk Board to K R Pura, and Phase 2B, covering 38.44 km between KR Pura and KIA.
Work on the airport-bound section had slowed following a fatal accident at HBR Layout in 2023, which caused a nine-month pause, but activity has since gained momentum.
Two dedicated stations inside the airport are being built by Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), the Airport City station at ground level and the semi-underground Airport Terminal station, located seven to eight metres below the surface.
The Blue Line will introduce driverless trains equipped with luggage racks and modern safety systems, designed to meet the needs of air passengers.
Together, Phases 2A and 2B carry an estimated cost of Rs 14,788 crore.
Planning for the corridor began nearly a decade ago, with approvals secured between 2017 and 2019.
Recently, BMRCL’s Managing Director J Ravishankar reviewed construction progress along the airport corridor from KIA to Hebbal.
His inspection covered the viaduct, depots at Shettigere, station works, and critical crossings near Indian Air Force land.
