Senior IAS officer, Amit Khare, who is credited with having exposed the fodder scam in Bihar and Jharkhand has been appointed as the new Information and Broadcasting Ministry secretary, News18 has reported.

Khare, a 1985 batch IAS officer, blew the lid off the fodder scam more than two decades ago. Lalu Yadav, RJD supremo and then Bihar Chief Minister had to resign from his post after the CBI issued an arrest warrant against him in the scam. Yadav was recently convicted in the fourth case related to the scam and was handed a 14-year jail sentence and Rs 60 lakh fine in the case.

“I am glad I did not waste my time thinking about my career or my family, or of my future. Otherwise, I would not have been able to take the decision of starting the inquiry into the fodder scam,” Khare had written about his role in the expose earlier.

Khare is currently serving as the development commissioner in Jharkhand, his home cadre. He will take over from incumbent NK Sinha who retires on 31 May.

Among the other bureaucratic developments, Anup Wadhwan has been appointed as the secretary in the Commerce Ministry while M M Kutty will be the new Petroleum secretary. Binoy Kumar will be the new Steel secretary while Rina Ray will serve as Secretary, the Department of School Education & Literacy succeeding Anil Swarup.
