On Sundays in Bengaluru, Namma Metro will begin as early as 7 am very soon. The decision was taken by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) recently and the operations will be even advanced to 6 am in a few months.

As of now, the services begin at 8 am on Sundays. This is required since many passengers who catch buses early morning do not have metro facilities in the early hours. The decision was announced by BMRCL Managing Director Ajay Seth.

Urban expert Ananda Gundurao was quoted by Times of India as saying,“Unfortunately, on Sundays, they start late. Just look at the plight of those arriving in the city during the morning hours. Sometime back, I checked with BMRCL and they quoted maintenance as the reason for the late start. How do other metros operate elsewhere? Learn to put people in focus, not hardware.”

Earlier, Swarajya had reported that BMRCL had been planning on advancing the time of the metro services so that passengers find it convenient to travel across the city. The weekend timings of the metro has been a subject of debate, since people across walks of life have different expectations from the transport body.
