Ministry of Finance’s Public Investment Board (PIB) has approved Rs 13,359 crore for metro rail projects in Indore and Bhopal. The proposal is being sent to the Union cabinet for its consideration. The proposal was taken into consideration in 2009. This will be perhaps the first project based on the New Metro Rail Policy.
According to Metro Rail News, PIC has approved Rs 6,397 crore and Rs 6,962 crore for Indore and Bhopal metros respectively. As a part of the first phase work, 31.55 km will be covered in Indore and 27.87 km in Bhopal. There will be 30 stations on both the lines.
With the assembly elections coming up soon in Madhya Pradesh, the project is expected to speed up soon. The Indore Metro Rail Project will be a rapid transit system metro. Free WiFi will be offered to the commuters on the metro to provide connectivity at the stations. The project is likely to reach completion by 2020, and will perhaps become one of the first driver-less trains in India.
Government of Madhya Pradesh had approved the detailed project reports of Indore and Bhopal metros in December 2016 at a total outlay of Rs 14,485 crore.
