Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu in a session at CII Annual Summit has announced that the background work for rating districts based on their ‘Ease of doing business’ has already started and that the ranking system will soon be launched, reports Business Standard.
The program will allow smaller towns to get more visibility and become more business-friendly and achieve overall growth.
The new policy once launched is expected to garner Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) of $100 billion. FDI flows for the period April - December 2018 fell by 7% to $33.5 billion. The minister added that “India’s exports of goods and services would touch $540 billion and the overall trade deficit was likely to decline by about $10 billion for the first time. The country’s goods exports grew 8.85 per cent to $298.47 billion during the April-February period of the current financial year.”
The initiative is expected to be launched by the new government that is going to be formed after winning the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
