Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) recently awarded contracts for installation of escalator works at 14 stations on the Metro Line 3 which runs through Colaba, Bandra and Seepz.

“M/s Johnson Lifts Pvt Ltd. India & M/s SJEC Corporation China Consortium” bagged the contract as it bid competitively among the list of pre-qualified bidders.

The contract involves a total of design, manufacture, supply and installation of around 205 escalators. These escalators will be state-of-the-art technologies like Variable Voltage Variable Frequency (VVVF) Regenerative Drives for power saving and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) based systems for real-time web-based monitoring.

Mumbai Metro, when completed in 2022, will comprise eight high-capacity metro railway lines, spanning a total of around 250 kilometres. Over 25 per cent of the distance will be constructed underground.

As of August 2018, while one line is in operation, four others are under various stages of construction.
