Adding might to the nation's fight to contain the spread of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s president JP Nadda on Saturday (28 March) announced that all the Members of the Parliament (MPs) from the party will be releasing a sum of Rs one crore each from their annual development fund MPLADS to the Centre's relief fund, reports Economic Times.
Furthermore, Nadda also announced that all the party's MPs will also be donating their one month salary towards the Centre's relief fund. It should be noted that the BJP has a total of 386 MPs in the Parliament, 303 in Lok Sabha and 83 Rajya Sabha.
Under the MPLADS, each MP gets an allocation of up to Rs five crore every year to carry out development related activities in their local constituencies.
The announcement from Nadda came the same day when Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi announced the launch of the PM's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM CARES) with the objective of dealing with any situation of emergency or distress.
