Disappointed by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP)‘s efforts, the residents and corporate employees staying in and around Whitefield have taken it upon themselves to solve the problem of potholes in the area, reports Deccan Herald.
Under the guidance and assistance of the infamous ‘Pothole Raja’ initiative undertaken by Prathaap Bhimasena Rao, the residents themselves have been filling potholes in their respective areas.
“According to the high court’s order, the BBMP was supposed to fix the potholes in the entire city by now. But we still see plenty of them. Whitefield being the IT hub is facing the brunt due to this," said, a resident of Whitefield, Karthik Swamy.
"Now the BBMP has got two more days to clear the potholes. Will the dream of a pothole-free Mahadevapura turn in to reality?” Swamy questioned.
The recent property tax collection data has also irked residents. The data placed Mahadevpura as the highest tax paying zone in Bengaluru.
“We pay road tax, and our roads are hopeless. Everyone who pays road tax should raise the issue,” said Kumar S, another resident.
The ‘Pothole Raja’ initiative, in the past two months, has helped fill potholes in Sarjapura ring road, Kundalahalli, Marathahalli, Bellandur and Nallurahalli.
“We have filled more than 100 potholes in the areas around Whitefield for two months now. The residents are fairly co-operating. In fact, I get at least seven to eight calls in a day from Mahadevapura alone, to fill up the craters,” said Prathaap Bhimasena Rao.
The residents have piled the pressure on BBMP to come up with a separate application for potholes.
“There is some app by the Palike called ‘fix my street’ app. They do not respond to our complaint at all. We need a separate app to report potholes alone, as the menace is rising,” said Seema Goshi, a resident.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
