Actress Jennifer Lawrence, who is currently promoting her upcoming movie Mother! alongside actor Javier Bardem, sparked a controversy on Sunday when she claimed that deadly hurricanes Harvey and Irma that left hundreds dead are signs of “Mother Nature’s rage and wrath” at America for electing Donald Trump.
“You know, it’s this new language that’s forming. I don’t even recognise it. It’s also scary to know that climate change is due to human activity, and we continue to ignore it, and the only voice that we really have is through voting,” the Oscar-winning actress said in an interview that appeared on Channel 4.
"You’re watching these hurricanes now, and it’s really hard, especially while promoting this movie, not to feel Mother Nature’s rage and wrath," she added.
According to the Independent, Lawrence has been a vocal critic of Trump since the launch of his presidential campaign in 2015. During an Entertainment Weekly interview back then, the actress had said that a victory for Trump would "be the end of the world". Soon after Trump's election, the actress said she wanted to make a video of herself saying 'Hey Trump, F**k you' while she was attending an event where the then president-elect was present.
“I was at a concert where I heard he was attending, so I had my full security team, I was like ‘find Donald Trump’,” she had said, appearing on The Graham Norton Show.
