Nine more people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Karnataka in the past 19 hours, taking the total number of corona patients in the state to 532, an official said on Wednesday.
"Till date, 532 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed. This includes 20 deaths and 215 discharges," a health official said.
Eight more COVID-19 patients have been discharged, taking the total number of coronavirus recovered persons in the state to 215.
Among the nine new cases, five are women and four men. There are five below 17, including a 4-year-old girl.
All the nine new cases are contacts of earlier cases and below 40 years of age, with eight cases emerging from Kalaburagi and another one from Hukkeri in Belagavi.
Meanwhile, the state government announced the easing of restrictions in some parts of the state that have not been heavily impacted by Covid-19. It also permitted information technology (IT) companies to continue working from home till July-end.
S Suresh Kumar, Karnataka’s primary and secondary education minister, on Tuesday (28 April) said that the guidelines would provide more clarity on the businesses that can operate in the red, orange and green zones of the state.
“There will be no changes in the red zone," he clarified, listing Bengaluru Urban, Belagavi, Mysuru, Vijayapura, Bagalkote, Kalaburagi, Bidar and Dakshina Kannada.
These districts account for the bulk of the covid-19 positive cases reported in the state and are also home to more than one hotspot.
