France - one of India’s key and longstanding allies has come out in its support over the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) by calling it India’s internal matter.

“Citizenship Amendment Act is India’s internal matter and we respect it”, Ambassador of France to India Emmanuel Lenain has been quoted as saying.

This is in a stark contrast to the reactions by Pakistan and Bangladesh who heavily condemned CAB. Even a US diplomat had expressed concerns over the CAB by expressing fear over its implications.

France has been a key ally of India and in recent days has supported over issues like Article 370 and anti-terror measures like freezing assets of Jaish-e-Mohammed founder Masood Azhar.
