Prime Minister Narendra Modi is reportedly set to unveil a major jobs programme for undergraduates ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In a bid to tackle unemployment in the country, three ministries: human resource development, labour and skill development, are about to join hands for training undergraduates and generating jobs for them, starting in 2019.
The mega ‘apprenticeship’ plan shall specifically target students of humanities and other non-technical courses across private and government-funded colleges. Also, higher educational institutions will become part of the plan which aims at equipping attached insitutions for getting jobs.
The ‘six to 10-month apprenticeship’ and on-the-job training programs will be arranged in the final year of the student’s degree programme, as reported by Economic Times.
Industries have a better linkage with students from technical courses and offer jobs to them at a faster pace, whereas the students from non-technical courses are at a disadvantage.
The training and apprenticeship plan is to target 1 million students, starting in the 2019-10 academic session, while the primary goal remains to bring into effect the ‘national integrated apprenticeship’ programme.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
