The counting of votes for the 30-member Puducherry legislative assembly commenced at 8 AM amid strict Covid-19 protocols on Sunday.
Initial trends suggest that the BJP-led NDA is on course to form a government in the union territory. India TV is indicating that NDA is leading in eight of the 14 constituencies whose trends are out.
Similarly, other channels seem to be suggesting a comfortable lead for the saffron alliance.
The V Narayanaswamy-led Congress government fell in February this year after multiple important leaders led by A. Namassivayam switched over to the BJP; indicating a shift in the political winds of Puducherry.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
