The encounter took place after police got an intelligence input about terrorists holed up in a residential house in the area, officials were cited in the report as saying. The terrorists fired upon the approaching police party due to which DSP Aman Thakur of Jammu and Kashmir police got seriously injured in the neck. Thakur succumbed to his injuries while being flown to the Army hospital.
According to the report, an Army major and two soldiers were also injured during the encounter. Subsequently, one of the soldiers, Havaldar Sombir, succumbed to his injuries.

The martyred DSP Aman Thakur was a resident of Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir. He was a 2011 batch JK Police Services officer and was posted as DSP (operation) in Kulgam two years ago. He was leading the police team from front in the encounter with JeM terrorists.
