Uttar Pradesh (UP) Chief Minister (CM) Yogi Adityanath has instructed the state’s Gau Sewa Aayog to issue legal transporters of cattle with certificates to ensure their safety and check incidents of cattle smuggling in the state, IANS has reported.

Adityanath further said that transporters with proper certificates will be given police protection to ensure that people engaged in the occupation legally do not face any issues.

The CM gave the directives at a meeting of the Gau Sewa Aayog and said that the safety and security of cows is of utmost importance. He also instructed the Aayog to ensure that cow shelters attain self-reliance in terms of finances to ensure the welfare of cows.

"The production of compost and preservation of cow urine should be done so that these can later be sold. Other by-products can also be sold," the CM said.

Incidents of cow thefts and smuggling have been reported across rural areas in western UP, Haryana and Rajasthan with the villagers helpless in the face of the illegal cattle smuggling mafia.
