In a major development, the Government of India has cleared the decks for Indian air carriers to launch Wi-Fi services on the flights and has notified the rules for the same, reports Economic Times.
The Government had issued a notification in this regard on bygone Saturday (29 February) in the official gazette. It should be noted though that the Government has skipped the mention of allowing mobile communications services in-flight.
As per the rules notified by the Government, the airlines would now be able to offer in-flight Wi-Fi services to the passengers upon permission from the pilot-in-command of the flight, given the usage of the Wi-Fi service takes place under flight mode on the gadget of use.
It should also be noted that the Government has permitted the services’ use on a wide array of gadgets including laptops, smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, e-readers and also a point of sale device.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
