Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit India on 18 and 19 August on the invitation of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Saturday (16 August).

The MEA said Yi will be on an official trip to New Delhi from August 18-19 at the invitation of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

The visit comes at a time when India and China have been taking a series of steps in recent months to improve bilateral relations.

During his visit, Yi will also meet with the External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

Doval will hold the 24th round of the Special Representatives' (SR) talks on the India-China boundary question with Yi.

"At the invitation of National Security Advisor Shri Ajit Doval, Member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China and Chinese Foreign Minister H.E. Mr. Wang Yi will visit India on 18-19 August 2025. During his visit, he will hold the 24th round of the Special Representatives' (SR) Talks on the India-China boundary question with India's SR, NSA Shri Doval," the MEA said.

Diplomatic relations between India and China have shown signs of improvement since October last year, when both sides agreed on fresh patrol arrangements along the Himalayan border.

The pact helped ease a five-year standoff that had disrupted trade, slowed investment, and restricted air travel between the two nations.

Yi's visit to India comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's official trip to China, where he is scheduled to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The Chinese FM's visit is expected to lay the groundwork for PM Modi's China trip.

The trip, PM Modi’s first in seven years, comes as he is set to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit, a regional security grouping that includes both countries.
